There are four types of squirrel trap and as many variations for each type that you can use. What is important is for you to know which one will work best for your problem. * Single Animal Live Cage squirrel trap is the type commonly used by wildlife control companies and homeowners. The cage trap can be made of steel, solid-walled plastic or metal. Near the back of the cage is a trip pan that contains the food bait. The squirrel, lured in by food, enters and steps on the pan that triggers the door to shut and traps the animal inside, alive.
* Repeating Live Cage Trap is used by professional and pest control companies. This big trap is mounted on the hole that squirrels use in entering and exiting the house. It has a one-way door that lets the squirrels in, but not out. The trap can hold many squirrels at one time.
* One-Way Exclusion Door trap is perhaps the best method from among the available options of removing problem squirrels from attics. The one-way door is almost like the repeating live cage trap. However, the trap is open on the end and once the squirrels push their way through the spring loaded one-way door, they are out of the house and can not get back in unless there are other openings in other parts of the house.
* Lastly, the Body grip squirrel trap which is a lethal trap that looks like a giant rat trap. The most common of this type is the double spring-loaded connibear traps used by old-time animal trappers. This is set on the area where squirrels often move. The trap shatters down on the animal and kills it instantly through crushing or choking once it touches the spring.
These types of squirrel trap are all proven effective and the best thing you can do is know exactly where their entry points and exits are to place the trap; what to prepare as baits for the gluttons who love to munch peanuts in shells and fresh juicy oranges; the extent of the infestation as there may be young babies in the nest that may be orphaned if you catch the mother; and what to do after you have the catch in the trap you prepared for them?
These considerations are really important if you must ensure that your trap will effectively solve all your problems relative to squirrels that give you sleepless nights and worries that they may cause irreparable damage to your home.
Likewise, since trapping squirrels is illegal in most states, unless you are professional wildlife personnel, you should know what to do next after you have caught them. If the squirrels are dead, if you chose the lethal type of squirrel trap, there is a need for you to bury them in your yard. If alive, either you euthanize which is the more appropriate method and the one required by regulations or bring them at least 5 miles away from your home to dispose them off. Relocate them in the woods, or else they will find their way again to their old nest – your attic!
